I just boat a new boat with a 1988 110hp evinrude VRO and when I try to trim it up or down with the buttons on the throttle arm, it is just clicking. Any ideas? It has a fully charged battery on it.

I tried that, I also tried to put the green and blue wire directly to a battery and nothing. I learned those tricks from other threads on the forum.

Do you think I should take the motor off and take it apart to make sure its not all corroded? I did read about doing that on another thread. Just scared if I take it apart it wont go back together. But if its shot then I guess no worries.

If you put bat voltage directly to the mtr and it didn't work, guess it's bad.

I just tried the motor again and when I put the blue / green wires on the battery it threw a spark. Is that normal? What would cause that? The trim didnt work, it just threw a spark at the battery terminals.

if after applying 12volts directly to the blue and green leads of the trim motor and it does not operate then it is time for a new tilt motor

at the moment the motor dont work at all, so go ahead and take it apart.
youl probably be able to clean it all up and maybe have to get new brushes.

now brushes can be expensive if you go to omc or brp agent etc.
try an electrical shop that repairs starters and alternators for brushes, if they are a touch too big you can always file them down to fit.
when you put it back together just try and get a new o-ring or seal it up etc to stop water getting in.

if its broke already, then you cant go wrong, and maybe save a small fortune in the long run.

Well if that one works I would rather just buy the new one for $50.

Based upon the sellers aplication chart you're good to go... I agree, why screw around trying to fix the old one if you can replace it for 50 bucks.
