1988 Evinrude 140

I replaced my VRO pump with a single fuel line pump. I replaced all the fuel lines also and added a water separator and filter. I added oil in my fuel 50 to 1. I started the boat and shes running good, as I increase the rpm to about 3k rpm the engine changes sound to higher pitch with popping. it seems like it doesnt want to go beyond higher rpm. I backed off immidiately.
Anyone know what this might be, lean on fuel maybe?

I ran the boat again today a little longer on idle. Somehow it cured itself, maybe a giant air to cause it to go lean? But now no water is coming out from the pee hole, it did last week!
