I have a 1988 Evinrude 15 HP that starts right and and runs for a few minutes then dies. I pump ball and it still will not start. Spray a little starting fluid in carb and it starts right up and dies. Problem seems fuel related but I don't know if I should go after fuel pump or carb first. Is there a way to tell?

I think you have already Bill. If pumping the primer does not keep it running, it's probably carb related. Does keeping the choke closed or primer solenoid energized keep it running? Try this. If it keeps running, carb related.

Likely that the idle lift tube has deteriorated away.

By the way....don't use starting fluid....no lube in it. Use a spray bottle with premix in it to shoot into the carb throat.
