1988 Evinrude 48 SPL

Can I assembly my lower unit, new fwd. new reverse, new clutch dog, put the upper bearing carrier on and add shims as the backlash test warrants? 300$ for a one time use shim measurement machine is beyond my budget. Thanks!

Only if you want to spend all that money again, take it to a dealer and they should be able to set it up for less than a $100...
