1st,I want to thank everyone again for all the valuable advice. From your advice I learned some valuable lessons. I just purchased this motor. It had set for a couple of years. It had a dirty carb that led me in a lot of different directions. The problem was a lean fire spitback, but my lack of experience was just as much the problem. I cleaned and rebulit the carbs, still spit. I changed the plugs and wires, bought the manual, checked the primer system, replaced the fuel lines, checked compression, cleaned the carbs again, and checked the reed valves. It still wouldn't run right.Placing fingers over the carb to choke it more per Joe Reeves advice smoothed it out, no more lean miss- spitback. <br /> This is the model carb with no needle adjustments. The problem, I was afraid to put the boat in the water when it was running like this. When I did, it runs fine. This motor will not run on a hose. Putting it in water, or a test tank i guess, will slow the rpm down and "cure" the lean problem. Don't be as dummy like me and try to work on these motors on a hose. For the steel wire cleaning advice, I used various gaged guitar strings-wire. I own a guitar shop. I throw tons of it away, all in different gauges. Anyone that needs some, email me with the sizes you need. Thanks again.
