I recently bought a 19 foot flats boat with an '88 Force 125.Had good compression and spark checkout at my local marina.Engine starts and idles ok and will rev to 5500 rpms or so in neutral but I can't get more than 2200 out of it in gear.Moves like a water buffalo.I made an error in my ratio mixture early on(exactly doubled the ratio) but changed plugs and have been mixing correctly for the last several tanks of fuel.Could I have fouled up my carbs or my fuel filters doing this?It does seem like it ran better back there maybe the one time I took it out before screwing up the ratio. But it seems like with new plugs and correct mix,and if it will rev so high in neutral,it should get on up there when its in gear. The mech at the hi and dry said something about a possible ignition coil problem but I think I might have done more than foul the plugs with my 25:1 ratio screwup....but what?I'm reading here about 5000rpms out of these motors and 40 mph.I'd be thrilled with that kind of performance.Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.
