Ok, I may be a little premature in posting this topic.

I purchased a 1988 Force, and it was claimed to have a complete rebuild and runs very strong. After installing it, I tried to fire it up last weekend, and it only had a spark on #3 cylinder. It was late, and I didn't have time to do any further diagnostics.

I'm going to replace all the spark plugs and try again. If I get the same results, how do I diagnose the problem? How do I go about testing the individual components?

I have a 1989 Force 125 that was on the boat originally. It has a siezed piston, but I have no reason to believe the ignition is faulty on this other engine. Can I swap them? What components should I try to swap first?

Basically, I have THIS weekend to get this motor running, and I could use a little direction. Like I said, I'm a little early posting this because I don't have a lot of information about my problems, but with some initial direction and more help throughout this weekend, I just may get this thing going...

Re: 1988 Force 125 ignition

wilkin250r, if you have a manual try the ignition circuit troubleshooting instructions, like my Farce 125 manual it's long and tedious but works, if not, then check boat part web sites and see if the parts are the same for the two years, if so and since you feel the spare engine is okay swap them one by one until you win, but first check the obvious, bad connections, corroded connectors, dirty terminal strip connections, etc. Having a spare parts engine is kinda handy,,,,,,,,good luck.
