I am having to replace a coil pack on my 1988 85hp force and the only one i could find online was blue In color. It says for 1989 models and up but it looks exactly the same as the one i am replacing (besides color of course). My question is, will this coil pack work on my motor????

Yes it will.
Does your CDI module have wires with terminal connectors or plugs?
It should have wires with terminal conncetors.
My sons 1988 85Hp has those connectors.

Here is a picture. I'm not sure on the terminology so i attached a pic. The coil i ordered appears to have the same connections. It's just a different color and the ad states its for 1989 and up. Mine is an '88. So i was just making sure i wasn't about to fry up something by attempting to use it.

Sorry that is the coil, I thought it was the CDI module.
If your engine has the plug instead of the terminal connectors and the one you want to replace with has the plug, then it will work.
The spec is the same, just another connection.

Have you made sure that its faulty? they rarely fail
However...they do built-up rust on the spring-end that clamps on the spark plug

The black is the upgraded version.
You can use it.
Just cut the connector off and use a butt connector or solder it(best)in place.

Thanks for the input fellas. And yes i am pretty sure it's faulty, i tested it on the other cdi module which i know functions and it will not spark. Also tested the good coils on the cdi module which runs the faulty coil just to make sure the module wasn't the problem and i got spark on the known good coils. So basically with little to know experience in electrical problems i THINK i narrowed it down to the #3 module.
