1988 GT 150 Revs to the moon upon start,

1988 Gt150 when you first start it it will rev to 6k, carbs are closed and choke isnt stuck. Im assuming it could be vacuum, or a bad gasket. Anyone had this problem, just looking for a place to start. Thanks guys

Did this just start out of the blue? What have you recently done to the motor? I think we need a bit more info. I would have to assume your sucking in air somehow, but not sure where. When you say, "when you first crank it up......" Does that mean it eventually settles down and runs normally?

Just got the boat, and I didn't let it run long enough to see honestly, but butterfly's are completely closed.

No hotfoot, seems that the arm for timing advance isn't going back to the neutral position.
