Took my '88 10hp Honda outboard to the shop and they just called and informed me it needs an ignition module, but these are no longer produced and unavailable. The certified Honda shop said they called Honda and that there was nothing they could do to obtain the necessary replacement part. So, am I really stuck with this useless 100 lb hunk, or is there an option? This motor started on one pull and ran flawlessly last summer. Can I get an ignition module somehow, some way?

That CDI unit will be the same as a current 8 horse classic. They rarely fail so why do you think you need one?

Re: 1988 Honda BF 100 ignition module

The service manager at the boat shop told me that's why I couldn't get the outboard started. I'm not sure how they came up with that diagnosis. I went back out to the shop to pick up the motor and the manager said he was going to do some checking to see if an ignition module used in newer models would work. Any advice?

Has anyone checked for spark at the plugs? Pretty simple to check.
