I recently purchased an onboard battery charger and a 3rd battery. Originally one battery was for the trolling motor and one for start / accessories. I installed the third battery and intended on using one for trolling motor, one for start and one for accessories.

I also connected the onboard charger while was in there and that's when my troubles started. The engine starts and runs fine, the switch at the rear and front for tilt and trim stopped working (one on the shifter still works).

The tach not does not work...I didn't start in the yard before going to the lake. When I started in the water, the tach was at zero and went backwards to 7k. The engine was not obviously turning that many RPMs at idle.

When I got back home I noticed it was back at zero and turned the key again and it went backwards again...

Any ideas ?? All help is def appreciated

I would check to see if your getting 13.5 volts, while running on the hose. Sounds like a REC/REG might be the problem. The tach gets its signal from the REC/REG. Most times when the tach starts acting up, the motor wont be charging the battery. There is a way to by-pass it, and see if the tach works. Its in the stickes, water cooled REC/REG.

I'm a total newb here ... I looked there and didn't see it as water cooled REC/REG. You talking about checking the voltage at the battery while running ? Thanks!

Ok ... took the 3rd battery out and reconnected everything as it was except I left the 3 bank charger connected ... One set of leads for the starting battery and 2 sets connected to the trolling motor battery .. all working again. Gonna back up and rethink this one more time ...

Thanks
