1988 Johnson 150 Water Temp Gauge?

I would like to add a water temp gauge to my V6 Block but see no place to install a sensor. My 1990 140 has one on the Port head. Is it possible to add on to the old V6?

Any Ideas? Can I bolt a sensor to the head and read from the block? If so...what should the temp be on the outside of the block?
