1988 Mariner 115 Temp Sending Unit

There is a port between the 3rd & 4th spark plug. It is a 1/8" brass pipe plug called the cylinder block cover pipe plug, per the manual. Can I remove the plug and install a 120-240 F. sending temp unit? I think this is where it should go but the manual leaves a lot to be desired. Thanks, the motor is a L6 115 hp.

rickdb1boat, I appreciate the response. I have looked at the site, and am actually installing their setup. I just could not find anything on the plug to install the sending unit. I would prefer to actually install the sender in the water stream. I'm really new meat at this and on one heck of a learning curve, I would rather work smart and have "ya'lls" experience behind me than tear up something. Thanks

You could drill and tap into the top of the block, but putting the sender in the water pocket would actually give you less accurate readings. The water cavity will develop steam pockets thus not telling the truth via the sender. Install the sender as recommended, and you will have much better accuracy.<br /><br />

I apologize if I asked the question incorrectly. My question is, can the brass plug in the cylinder block cover between the 3rd & 4th sparkplug be removed and a 1/8" temp sending unit be threaded into the existing threaded hole, would this give me a fairly accurate temp reading? I am not removing the alarm sending unit, I just want to monitor the motor temp, especially after loosing a connection making my alarm useless the other day.
