1988 Mariner Classic 50-to clean carbs or not

Hello I purchased a 1988 bass tracker- with a 1988 Mariner 45hp classic 50. Got a great deal o nit. The motor will start up but will die. The boat has been sitting for 3 years with gas in it, i'm guessing it's dying because of the bad gas. The gas that is in it, is gas that the boat mechanic put in there 3 years ago. The individual who owned it had a new carb kit put on it and carbs cleaned then put it in his garage and didn't use it for 3 years.

Should I clean the carbs out or just drain the carb bowls and run some seafoam through it? What are your thoughts on getting this running. I don't have any doubts I can get it running I'm just curious on if I should even bother cleaning the carbs.

Well first try dumping the gas in the tank, draining the carb Bowls, Does the engine have the Auto Blend Oil Injection System? If so, take out of the Fuel Line, and throw it as far from the engine as possible. Mix a new tankful with a TCW-3 oil at 50:1.

There are better Snake Oils than SeaFoam, but if the Passages in the carb are gummed up, the only real way solve it is to disassemble the carbs, including the Welsh type of covers/plugs to get att all the places where the stuff forms. If you want to try a chemical solution... I used to empty a can of Engine Tuner into about 2 gallons of premix. Some of the time it worked, but not always.
Your engine has two Carbs, the last thing it needs is one carb supplying fuel and the other not. That will lead to a very expensive repair, so trying the Chemical is at your own Risk
