to make a long story short I took the carb off my newly aquired 88' 3.0 and got rid of it cause it really looked trashed. I then spent a bunch of $$ a newer carb off a 4.3 & thought i was all good. Nope would hardly even plane & hard to start. after doing research I quickly have learned even though these carbs look identical, you cant stick a v6 carb on a 4 banger. now I have to make a decision: buy a carb locally for $75 and rebuild it myself or buy a rebuilt one online for around $250, also found a 2003 3.0 carb, but not sure if it will work om an 88' model?

What is your engine serial number. That way we can work out which carb WAS on your engine (unless you happen to still have it and can give us the carb number from it). Then we can work out whether any of the other carbs are suitable.... You'll also need to give us the Carb numbers from the ones you are considering.
