I have a 1988 merc 9.9. That I have aquired and it seems its inexcellent shape. Anyway, I buy a owners manual, new fuel line, tank, and connectors. The first time I took it out it fired right up on the first half pull of the rope. I used it half a day or so. The next fishing trip put the boat overboard again and just like the first trip, it started on the first half pull. So I today I set out to go on a little fishing trip and as I am loading the boat and trailer. I notice the the engine appears a little greasy. I pop the cowl and nothing looks out of the place, no puddles of fluid etc etc.
I get to the boat ramp and I goto prime the engine and as I squeeze the bulb fuel squirts from the fuel connector at the boat. So, I disconnect and reconnect and it still does the same.. So, I think for a minute and maybe the boats internal fuel system has to much pressure and when I tried to prime it has no where to go except out the fitting... I wipe the motor down and let the fuel dry. Then I start the boat. Same deal, first half pull and the motor started right up... However, it didn't staying running for long so I assume there is some sorta fuel system issue....
Sorry for the lengthy post...
