i've recently did a tune up on my engine and now she's not running very smooth at all. I replaced points (gapped to .022), condenser and plugs. I thought the timing may have been off so i attempted to set the timing with a timing light. She wasnt riding this rough before i started messing around with things, and now i'm afraid i probably screwed it up even further.... anyone have suggestions on where i should start readjusting first? (carb?, air-fuel mixture?, timing? ????) She's really idling rough - so much the engine is severly vibrating enough to shake the boat (it's on trailer).

If it didn't run rough before the plug change you may have crossed a couple of plug wires. What manual are you getting your specs from ? Check where each plug wire should be on the cap,and on the engine.

DHP

Forget setting the points by gap, use a dwell meter. The gap is only good to get it close enough to run to check the dwell. Once you have the dwell set to specs, then check your timing and set to specs. Timing will be off as dwell changes.
