My 100hp Mercury is flooding out on me. From where I launch the lake is about 1500 feet away at idle speed.

By the time I got to open water the motor was flooded. I was not able to get the motor to run at full power. Wide open I could not really get on plane.

I stopped and waited 10 minutes, fired the motor up and away she went and ran fine all day. WOT was perfect, the boat had plently of power.

As I made my way down the canal at idle speed, the motor flooded again. By the time I got it on the trailer there was a film of what looked like oil in the water behind me.

I took the front cowl off when I got home and it looks like there is oil all over the place.

I've searched around the forum and have read a few posts about a 2psi valve. I am not sure what that is, one thing I noticed is it almost looks like my oil tank is sucked in, although it does not pop back out when I take the cap off. I do hear a slight release in pressure when the cap is removed.

I've pulled the plugs, the top two are very wet with oil, the bottom two look great.

I ran the boat last weekend and it worked great.

Is this a carb issue?

thanks
Jon

Well im not an expert but give you my experience. I fought several problems on my 1988 Merc 80 hp 3 cylinder. I had fuel running out of carbs and all. it turned out to be a bad fuel pump. Laddies and another of the experts told me about it. May not be the problems but the rebuild kits are cheap and its something to look at. Joe

thanks for the input.

I am not sure if this will help with finding the problem or not but when I got home from work I noticed oil in the splah well, not much but is was there.

The oil cap has been off all night and last night after trailering the boat for an hour and having it sit in the garage for over an hour, I still had a little pressure release from the oil tank when I took the cap off.

I phoned my local dealer today and talked to him. He thinks it is time for a carb rebuild.

My motor has four carbs, any guess on what that is going to cost me?

Re: 1988 Mercury 100hp Flooding

I picked the boat up on Friday. I had a crack in the rebreather line. Apparently this can mess up the oil/fuel mix causing the boat to flood out.

Ran it for a few hours today and it ran great.
