well about month ago we had a real bad rain storm and i didnt have a cover on the boat. in the middle of the night i heard the trim motor running so i ran out and disconnected the battery. the next day it seemed to work fine. but now when i connect the battery it sparks and the trim will not do anything. can anyone help me diagnose the issue. is it a electrical issue or a trim issue. i kno wi should have had a cover and a battery switch installed but its my first boat. any help would be greatly appreciated

Unfortunately from the sounds of it, if you are getting a spark when you connect the terminals, that should indicate that you are getting juice to it. You might want to check the battery to see that it has enough volts to do anything with. I know that if the battery gets run down, it can still have juice, but not be enought to even make the tilt move.

its actually the battery that is sparking when the leads are attached.

One of the trim solinoids sounds like it died or you have a dead short in something. You need to clean each wire contact individually and make sure that none of the wires shows signs of melting.
