Ok, so i'm new on here and im having issues with my boat. The engine is a 1988 mercury 135 v6 carbed motor. It starts and runs great on muffs in the driveway. I bring it to the launch and it starts no problem at all. I need to keep 1/2 to 2/3 throttle and she runs good on warmup. After about 30-60 seconds it dies and doesnt want to stay running. I get it restarted and need to give almost full throttle to stay going and you could tell it wants to stall and eventually it does. It does this over and over and over.

Any idea what it could be?
Why doesnt it do this as soon as it starts up?

Seems to do it only after a little while of running. The boat was not well maintained by previous owner. Found water in outdrive which im working on now. Motor got hot when i was trying to keep it running at the launch so i shut her down and found the water in OD. I'm going to attempt to remove and clean/rebuild carbs depending on what they look like. What else should i check for? Thanks in advance!

The first step in outboard trouble shooting is a compression test.-------Once you report those numbers we can go on to other steps to take.----One thing at a time please.
