1988 Omc 2.3 Ignition Question

[88 Capri (2022 SOTY)]

I am converting back to the original setup with the resistance wire and upon receiving it there is a totally different connection on the non-coil side. The original had a connection to both alternator wires, did this get changed as years went by? Per the diagram they are spliced but look separate.
