Hi everyone, I am trying to replace my fuel pump (omc #985337) I am having a heck of a time finding one! I have searched the internet, and found one on ebay (for 349.00 which is not going to happen) most places say "part is no longer available". This is a pretty common motor I believe so I have a hard time thinking there are NO replacements out there.Does anyone know if there is a replacement for this pump? Another model # or cross reference # or even a rebuild kit? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have looked and just to be sure I looked again, there is nothing that references 985337. I have no idea if any of the pumps for sale will work. I WILL say that 2 of them look to be identical to my pump but again the part #'s are completely different.

Howdy,

It's important to know what model you have since there was a few different fuel pumps for that engine. Yours could be a 1987 model.

302AMARJ 1987
302AMARY 1987
302AMFTC 1987
302APARY 1987
302APFTC 1987
302APSRC 1987
302ARSRY 1987

302AMRGDP 1988
302APRGDP 1988

If it is a 985387, the equivalent is a Carter M60573 Federal Mogul indicates the part number

It is indicated as Obsolete but I did find it in several places. Just do a search. Sierra also may have a pump that replaces the above number.

MarineEngine..Com indicated that the #985387 pump is NLA.

If it were mine, I might consider an electric. Rock Auto shows an electric pump for all models of OMC engines for that year. If yo. do go to an electric, you'll need to install an oil pressure (safety) switch so that the pump doesn't run if the engine quits.

You may also be able to install a later model (Mercruiser, Volvo) 3.0L fuel pump.

So you might have to experiment. It's how it is with OMC. The aftermarket is starting to NOT support some parts for some models......

Sorry about that.....

It is a 1988 302AMRGDP. I have the 3.0 parts catalog and the part # is 985337, I did find one on ebay but the guy was over the top with his price, I know beggers can't be choosers but for $349.00 I WILL BE. I checked wholesale marine and looked under 1987 just to compare, they had one but that is a completely different fuel pump. What I really need to do is pull the original and look for markings, the boat is winterized and completely covered so this will have to wait until the spring. I didn't realize it would be such a problem finding one. I did consider electric but I really didn't want to get into it, I guess I just really don't know much about them. Thank you gentleman for your help, I appreciate your opinions and the opinions of anyone else who may still want to comment!

Yeah. That fuel pump is going to be the "same" as the 88 Mercruiser and Volvo (and same year Forklifts etc!)

The guy on eBAY is just trying to rip off unsuspecting buyers. An electric would work just fine. You just have to install a pressure switch and wire it so the pump only runs during cranking and when the oil pressure is up.

I looked at several OMC parts sellers and they only list the 985337 pump as NLA......so you're either going to have to find a substitute, new(old-stock), used or an electric.

Good luck,

I had that exact same problem on my OMC 5.0L Ford motor.

Contact these people with pictures of your pump taken apart and I bet they have parts available for it. I rebuilt my pump and it works great! And I saved a ton of money!

The pump is pretty simple to pull apart, although yours is definitely different from mine. I purchased two kits, just in case my pump fails again. It was like $60 plus shipping for two kits. Prices probably have changed though. But I'm sure it's cheaper than $350!!!
