1988 rude 150 bog

well finally put the boat in and tested it under a load. the motor only goes to 3500 rms with a little bogging. if i were to floor it it takes off, then instantly bogs and wont go above 3500 RPM's. I noticed when i am at WOT and at 3500 and then i push the key in for the selonoid/primer the engine takes off and goes to about 5500 RMS as long as i hold in the key, as soon as i let go of the key the motor will kick back down and wong go above 3500 RPM's.

I pulled all the craps 2 days ago and they are as clean as a whistle. does anyone know what could be causing this?

it's a fuel delivery problem. did you pull the high speed jets as i said. then look at the fuel pump. but the pump doesn't make sense as it pumps thru the same line as the carbs to the primer which you activate when you push the key in. i'm still thinking high speed jets.
or one of the float needles is not opening all the way, allowing enough gas to enter the bowl.

well I must bow down to you. After pulling the carbs for the 3rd time I finally pulled the high speed jets as you said. Overall they werent clogged but a little dirty. I cleaned them and took the boat out to the water that afternoon. I nervisously punched the throttle and she jumped out of the water like a whale. Now she hits about 5200 RPM at WOT, I think it should be a little more but that is most likely just a reprop, I have a 14 1/4" X 17 pitch. The boat does 41 with gear and 3 adults so I am happy.

Thank you for all the helpful information, couldent of done it without you. Even though I have the manual for this engine it does not compare to the help you get from this site.
