My Throttle lever increases the throttle weird. It is like the first 75 degrees of control lever travel barely opens the carb throttle butterfly, but steadily increases the timing plate. Then the last 20-30 degrees of control lever travel opens the carb up to wide open for full throttle, but little or no ignition advance.

I would think the throttle would open steadily during the entire throw of the control lever?

In use the motor barely increases rpm while pushing the lever forward, then the last few degrees of lever rotation the motor comes to life and really screams. This makes finding a half-throttle position difficult. This just cannot be right, can it?

Anyone have an idea of what could be wrong? Or is this typical of the 1988 Evinrude 28 SPL?

sounds like you need to get an OEM manual and do a link and sinc. this is a step by step procedure, that sets the linkage of the timing plate and the carbs properly. this way the the electronics, and carbs work together.

Also, remove the throttle cable where it attaches to the linkage on the motor. Then with the control in neutral, the cable end should just slip on the linkage. Turn the trunion nut to adjust. I have that same motor(Year and all) on my little runabout. They are great engines....

Ok, Will do - I'll order a manual and get into this thing the right way.

Thanks for your quick responses!
