hello, new to this forum and new to boating! I bought my boat last year but didn't do anything with it until now. I'd like to clean the carbs and replace throttle / gear cables, if their are two cables haha I have no idea.. I believe the motor 8s v6 so is their 6 carbs? What all should I buy for the carbs? What's a good website to find boat parts? Are parts specific for certain engines? Like will I be able to find gaskets for my '88 haha. I have lots of questions but this is all for now.. thank you

EDIT: So just looked. I have three carbs it looks like. So I guess my question is, is their somewhere I can get gaskets for these carbs? I'll pr9bably replace them I'm not sure yet as I have never done this before.

Carb gaskets and inlet needles are easily available for your motor. Some of the earlier V6 motors had non-replaceable carb floats. You need to see if yours are those or what. If not get new floats. You have 3 two barrel carbs, so you need two carb gasket kits, 2 floats and 2 inlet needles and seats. And some carb cleaner and elbow grease.

You should see two cables on the port sideof the motor. The lower one is shift cable and upper is throttle. If they move smooth, there is no need to replace them.

Okay awesome. Do you have recommended cables? I'm 99% sure they need replacing.. I also need to figure out reverse. Ithink it's not engaging all the way. When I throw it in reverse it makes a lot of noise but still goes but I stopped going in reverse cause it did not sound good..

The shift slider should be approximately in the center of its travel, when the motor is in neutral. The shift cable should be adjusted, to match this position, with the control in neutral. So disconnect the shift cable, set the control to neutral, wiggle the shift slider until she settles in the neutral detent. Now adjust the cable barrel nut until the cable will connect to the shift slider w/o moving it.

I can not find the measurements.. on the outboard side the only writing I can find is this
"53732-000-0156.0 4155 Singapore"

And now I'm inside the boat at the throttle and idk how I'm even gonna change outthese cables... Theirs four screws holding the throttle to the wall and they have nuts on the back which I can't access.... But I can't find writing on this side so I'm not sure on measurements.. I'll post photos of throttle side to see if you guys know how to get past this

Teleflex has a website with instructions on how to measure the boat to get the correct length cables.

On standard Merc controls, you unbolt it from the boat, and then remove the control's bolts, and it splits in half.

I forgot to post the pics. I'll do that now. I thinking almost have it.. I'm new to this stuff so hopefully I can get it back together haha

Here's photos of the throttle assembly. Trying to pull the metal box out from behind but currently the trim wires are still hooked into the throttle thing..

OK, you need to remove the throttle handle the inside finisher, and then the box can be unbolted and pulled out. Look for an allen head set screw on the base of the throttle handle. On my control, the handle has to be in reverse to get to it.

Oh dope you know exactly what I'm dealing with haha I got that undone and it's almost out now. The wires need to be removed from the throttle thing to go thru the hole and then I think I'm free.. I'm at work ATM so I'll take a look when I get back home

I cannot figure out the trim either... The wires don't match. At the moment the trailer button raises the motor and trim down lowers the motor... I'm switching ever6thing around and it won't change idk how this is supposed to be wired

if it has a separate "trailer" button its not an "88.... all should be controlled by up/down tile n trim switch or switches......
