I have just retired from the military and I bought a 17ft 1988 Seasquirt that need a transom rebuild and some other repairs to get it ready for the water. Since i have to break the hull apart I'm going to redo the stringers so i don't have to break it apart again at a later date. I have been researching an reading a lot of the post on this form for several years and I'm looking forward to getting stated on this boat restoration! I hope i can get some much needed advice from the experienced re-builders in this form on how to go about doing the repairs to this boat. I'm posting son pic of the transom. I hope they load.

Hi and welcome to the Iboats Dry Dock, "AMMO60"
First off, Thank You for your Service!
We will certainly be glad to help any way we can with whatever info you might need to restore this boat to better than new condition...
If you can get a Free Photobucket account and load your pics there, then click on the IMG code Tag to post them here...the pics will be easier to see...

Instead of this...

When you are ready to post a reply, leave that one open, open a second tab, then go to Photobucket...In Photobucket, when you click on the picture you want to post...Photobucket puts it on the screen by itself, fullsize...right next to the picture, you should see a list of choices in oval boxes...the 5th one down, that has "IMG" next to it, click it, it will momentarily turn yellow and say "copied"...then come here to your post. Click "Go Advanced"...right click your mouse in the reply box and the choices will come up...click on "Paste" and you got it...it will transfer the address of the picture to your post...to see what it will look like, you can click on "Preview Post"...I usually like to add a space between anything I write both before and after the picture just in case I need to do any editing, it makes it a little easier...but don't worry about that, it gets easier to figure out the details the more you do it...
Hope that makes sense...

The wood in the transom is rotten and would i be better off cutting the inside of the transom out before separating the hull

I have the rub-rail off and all the hundreds of rivets drilled out and ready to start to separate the hull. Would it be better to cut the transom back out before separating the hull? I have done a lot of research on this boat and it has not been in production since 1993 by the company that built it. I also wonder if it is a double wall boat an if it will separate with out cutting the bottom out?

Could you get on a ladder at the stern and take a pic of the entire boat shooting towards the bow so we can get a look at the whole interior of her. It would help us help you determine if she's a "TUB" construction or not. From your pics so for, it kinda appears that she is and if so take her apart could be problematic. Pics will tell the tale.

Re: 1988 Seasquirt Restore

Were you able to get the cap off? I have a 1983 15' SeaSquirt, which I bought last summer. All was well last fall, but I put it in the water a few weeks ago and it started listing. There may be an issue with the drainage system, and we learned that the foam is wet. I'd love to pull the cap, check the drainage system and replace the foam, but that may be a little over my head.

I'd love to know whether you were able to remove the cap, or whether it needed cutting.

BTW - I love these threads and truly appreciate the expertise the more experienced boaters have added. Thank you!
