Tried to raise the drive and it won't go up, just down. So I reversed the wires and using the "Down" button on the throttle lever it now goes up, just not down now. I'm guessing the trim motor and equipment is okay, but the switch on the throttle lever either needs cleaning or replacing.

1. When can I find detailed instructions on how to pull the throttle lever apart and hopefully clean it.
2. If this doesn't work what are alternative solutions.

Finally, when using it last year I did notive the gage didn't register the correct trim level. I did follow the procedure in the manual, but that didn't work.

1. Are these two issues related?
2. If not but I need to replace the sending units (both) do I need to replace the bellows?

Thanks for any input.

Read this before you even think about taking the control apart.

1. No, the gauge has nothing to do with the drive going up or down.
2. The bellows has nothing to do with the trim, but if it's older than 5 ot 6 years, it sure wouldn't hurt to replace it before it fails and causes more problems.

That problem is almost NEVER the switch but is almost ALWAYS in the trim limit switch circuit. The trim limit switch is located on the port side of the gimbal ring. You can check it out by bypassing the TL switch. Locate the black wires coming through the transom that plug into two connectors, one with a purple/white wire and one with two blue/white wires. Unplug the black wires and with a short piece of insulated wire, jumper between the two connectors. Try the trim switch. If it works = bad TL circuit, good switch.
