I have a 1988 stratos 266 fs if that is pertinent. I have had this boat since 1990 and it has spent most of its time in saltwater. I have been surprised how well it has held up since it is basically a freshwater boat. However after losing my job a few years ago the boat has just been sitting. I finally found a new job and am ready ro hit the gulf again however after doing some peliminry maintenace , I found some soft spots at the battery box on the right side. I pulled out the gas tank and got eveerything out of the way and noticed damage going into the stringer headed up to the front of the boat. My question is, should I try and split the hull or make a cut half way up the boat and split the upper hull in half if that makes sense. Also wondering how much the upper half will weigh if I decide to separate the two halves of the boat. I guess i would have to build 2 A frames to do it. There is one problem that i see. Several years ago I had someone put in a floor because the ski locker was rotted. He did a good job however he tabbed the floor to the upper hull which means more cutting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
