ok, so I have the factory manual and the seal orientation information is not in it. every other seal has an orientation call-out balloon. just not the pivot shaft.

kenny nunez muc on the H-frame for the 290 and up drives, there are seals on each side of the needle bearings. lips inward (hold grease, may allow water in) or lips outward (keep water out, may loose grease).

its been 14-15 months since I pulled the drive apart and all my photos from that 2 month period of time vanished when my phone went poof last July.

To me I would rather have the lips outward to keep out the water and by having it packed with grease would further protect the bearings as the grease would build an additional barrier, The rubber gasket that seals the water outlet is also an extra seal.

rubber gasket and water seal is on the other end of the suspension fork H frame. however that is my thought too....also makes it easier to install

There is absolutely no option on seal direction when replacing... The cups of the seal are to either keep fluid "in" or fluids "out"

Kenny, I THINK you have my personal email address from a year or 2 back... Get a hold of me and I will take care of you... I am getting confused from the terminology..

When My VP Guru took me on about 12 years ago, that being Rick Emery, He always had me refer to the parts as refered to by Volvo..

Some were confusing, as they were a translation from Swedish to English... But Volvo names the items and we have to follow, lol... Never could understand how they got the name "double bearing box" for a bearing carrier..

since the bearing has a grease nipple, seals were installed lip out.

It took me a few minutes to even remember where the Double bearing box was. I have not looked at a Volvo service manual in 15 years. I finally remembered about the main input shaft on the AQs has 2 bearings “back to back” in the so called “box” which is held in with 4 bolts in a square flange. Those Swedish terms take some thought . I could not find your E mail.
