hey, the original owner told me about a loud buzzer that would go off if i trolled with the motor for too long...

the thing is, i was in a no wake zone and had to troll with the main motor quite a ways, and about three quarters of the way i heard the loud buzzer for the first time...

the original owner said he would just prime the oil ball till the noise stopped... i tried this and could not get the noise to stop...

what is the alarm for???
how do i make it stop???

if it helps, the alarm came from the throttle housing... and was pretty loud...

thanks for any help you can give

Might be a stupid question.Have you checked your oil tank to make sure there is plenty of oil ? If it is low your bow could rise at trolling speed and put the oil in an unlevel postion. That will give you a warning ( low Oil )

If the horn sounds continuosly it is a over heat condition .
If the horn sounds for a 1/2 second every 20 seconds it is low oil level.
If the horn sounds every 1/2 second every second it is out of oil or oil flow to the pump is obstructed.

I would replace the waterpump. Did the original owner say when he last replaced it?

It is running hot due to needing a new water pump. Be careful with trolling because of carbon buildup in cylinders. Good Luck!

sounds like it is running hot at low speed may need new
impeller I had a merc once that did the same thing. Replaced the water pump and it did the same thing so I just quit trolling with it

Re: 1988 vro johnson 60hp loud buzzer at low rpm???

well the b-day party went off smoothly...

so i got me a new trolling motor, and no more need to use the boat motor at low speed...

as far as overheating... it was only running for a few minutes after sitting for three hours or so, and i dont think it couldve overheated so quickly... i could be wrong though...

im am going to add some more oil to make sure the oil canister remains full, because i think it might be a little low, and the idea that when im trolling the front of the boat is in the air, and that could cause the oil to tip towards the back and leave the oil tube out of the oil.

im gonna go out on monday, ill let you guys know if adding oil is the prob...

thanks
again
