I am asking this because i bought a starter from a guy. I gave him the part number and he gave me a starter and said this is the one that fits my motor. When i start the motor it turns the flywheel CCW. The motor runs but dies when i put it in forward. The manual I have says to turn the flywheel CW when I am checking for TDC but I can't find anywhere in the manual that says which direction the motor turns. After reading the manual it got me wondering if I have the right starter. I have read that you shouldnt turn the fly wheel in both directions due to messing up the water pump. The part number for this motor is 586890. That number was given to me buy my local Evinrude dealer. I asked him which direction the starter turns and which direction the motor should turn and he told me he wasnt a mechanic and didnt know. What will happen if the motor starts the opposite direction( even though I have already had it running) I have had it go into forward gear and drove the boat around for a few minutes.
