I purchased this motor(with 16 ft starcraft). I've been constantly checking oil consumption(Yam oil injection).
I'm paranoid about this since I fried my snowmobile last winter for this exact problem.
Anyway, I'm wondering what might be considered normal oil usage?

Engine runs fine, I can troll along 2 mph all day and it never complains.
Hit the gas and off it goes. I couldn't be happier with how it runs.
Plugs look fine.

I seem to use pretty consistently about 8 ounces of oil for 6-7 gallons of gas.
This is around 100:1, which concerns me a little.

Is there some way to check this.

See if you can find a Yamaha service manual for that motor, seems like I have read that there should be a spec for how many CCs of oil used at a certain RPM or talk to your local Yamaha service guy to get that number.
Low RPM uses less oil so you will have to check at that RPM spec not variable.
Gear driven pumps are reliable, just need to make sure you do not build up sludge in the tank and make sure oil lines and check valves are good

Thanks for the tips 99yam40. I'll try to find a manual and check those things out. Until then, I think I'll run a little premix, just to be sure.
Thx again
