1989 125 force idle adjustment

I just bought my first boat. It is a 1989 renker bow rider with a force 125 outboard, I got a great deal on it and everything on it is new, that is the reason for buying such an old boat.

I am having a small problem. The engine runs great at high speeds and will run at idle, but the idle speed is low. As soon as I put it in forward or reverse, the engine will die unless I immediately give it alot of gas.

Can anyone explain in detail how I would increase the idle speed on this motor?

Many thanks in advance.

Whats low? At idle you should be running about 800 RPM. When you shift, make sure it's done with quick snapping motion. I usually give the motor some extra power to spin up the prop just for a second or two before reducing throttle to idle.

The idle RPM is controlled by idle screw, it should be on the same side as fuel pump. You will need to loosen the jam-nut to turn it.
