Hey guys, It's my first post here and it's long overdue. I've recently purchased a 1980 Jerry bass boat, that i want to do a restoration on. Im using it to finish off this season here in nova Scotia, which ends in a bout a month and a half. Then shes getting stripped and redone.

I of course am trying to work out all the issues before i strip it, and one of them was the notorious trim leak down. It was slow, but annoying. Im not trying to add another post to the one million i read through, I am only hoping that this may help someone else get to the great info i found. I have to give 100% credit to this post http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...outboards/659768-88-force-85hp-trim-drop-help and the response from pnwboat, as well as Jiggz tool idea.

This fixed my problem 100% and cost me $20. I have a few tidbits of info I would like to add, based on my experience in performing the repair.

I was fortunate enough to have a spare trim assembly with the boat purchase, so i rebuilt the spare pump rather than take my only one apart. The first one i rebuilt, had the valves held in with C-clips. I could be wrong, but this was probably the original one. Following the procedure explained in detail, it went well. I used the trim assembly for 2 weeks, until I noticed while it was on the trailer that one of the C-clips was starting to come out. I snapped it back in, and thought "that was close...". I hit the lake the next day and while fishing a weedy area started to lift the engine so it wouldn't get fetched up and POP the valve flew out in the lake somewhere. And yes... so did the hydraulic fluid :grumpy:.

So I limped home without being able to use my transom saver after loaded up on the trailer, and dug out the other pump i had. I was please to see it had allen key plugs holding the valves in! Much better setup... They look like the ones you can buy on ebay. So i ran to the briggs dealer, picked up two more seals and i was back in business. the only thing is, this pump is a lot noisier for some reason.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents. I hope this finds any others with the leak down problem. Maybe they can add it to the Force and Chrysler FAQ section. Theres a lot of dead end threads when you search for info.

All in all great forum, and great meeting everyone!!
