I had my boat on the lake the other weekend and was going across the lake when it started idling down. I put it in nuetral and it was fine. Started back across the lake and it did it again. I had someone look at it and they told me my switch boxes were bad. That it was only runnin on 4 cylinders. If i replace those will it fix the prob?

Don't bet over four hundred bucks on it. Two switchboxes aren't likely to fail at about the same time. Which two cylinders are out?

I have no clue which 2 cylinders were out. The mercury tech said he tested the stator and trigger and there good. Just that a had a bad switch box and it needed to be replaced. I juss wanna know if the bad switch box could have been causing the power loss probs?

Certainly. There are two. I would find it far more likely for one to be bad than two if these symptoms came on suddenly. Each costs over $200. Each fires three cylinders directly and the other three indirectly. Current has to pass through both to make spark.
