This may not be the proper forum, but here it goes. I plan on looking at a 1989 14 HP Evinrude. I have to drive some distance to look at it. The guy wants $500 and tells me that it is in pretty good shape. I was wondering if there were any problems with this model motor that I should be aware of. He said that they only made the 14 HP for about three years. Are there available parts, etc? More problems than the standard 15 HP model? Thanks.

Don't know much about the 14 but in neck of the woods $500 would be a bunch.

I don't know much about the 14hp either but a comparable 15hp around here would go for at least $500. Here is Minnesota:D

Actually I never heard of a 14, but there are 15hp all over Craigslist for $500-600. why buy something odd?

Good point. The fact that they only made them for a couple of years makes me a bit nervous about reliability and obtaining parts.

Im going to take a guess here and say its probably an international OMC eng.During those yrs they made engines with some weird hp's like 48 instead of 50,88 instead of 90.I'll bet its an eng like a 15,but may have a different painting or decal.Hopefully an expert will come along, but surely OMC didnt just make a 14,when their ever popular 9,9 and 15 were also in the make ,basicallythe same eng.perhaps its a sailboat eng.with an extra long shaft. Be sure to know the shaft length as those engines had a couple different sizes.

Yup, makes you wonder why they only made them for two years.
