1989 140 HP V4 JOHNSON LOOPER WATER TUBE REPLACEMENT HELP?

I have a 1989 Johnson looper V4 140 hp outboard that the water tube needs replaced in. What do I need to do to replace the tube besides remove the lower end unit. The tube is corraded at the end and not very much water comes out the peehole and most just dumps out of the lower end. Can I just pull the tube out and replace it with another half inch piece of copper?Thanks in advance

Powerhead comes off. Adapter plate between leg and powerhead comes off. Exhaust megaphone comes off bottom of adapter plate. Tube has a flare at the top and goes in from the top. Not a quick and easy job. Good news is the leg can stay on...

Can I just put a coupler on solder and extend it enough to make it work
