i have an 89 150 johnson which the tilt and trim isnt working. i can use the button on the trottle or the toggle in the back and all i hear is it click. i no there is something getting power back there bc i can feel it clicking when i push the buttons:confused:also, when i try using the key to crank it, nothing happens. an annoying alarm will sound and i guess the fuel pump kicks on, but no indications of cranking happens. y r these things occuring?? ive change the cylanoid (not sure how to spell) with a 79' ford, bc it is apparently the same thing and ALOT cheaper, but still there is no fire. can anyone help me??????

Have you checked the charge of your battery and checked to make sure the connections are clean and tight.

ithe Ford solenoid is not the same, it grounds differently than the outboard does, also the Ford solenoid can blow all your electronics, so be cheap and use the Ford, and have to replace expensive electronics. GET THE CORRECT PART!!!!!

90% of starter problems are bad connections. remove and clean both ends of the battery cables, so that they are shiney, also the cable from the solenoid to starter. check for nicks in the cables. and make sure the connectors are on the wire good. the cable tend to corrode from the inside out, if nicked, corroded wires, and connections, heat up and cause resistance to the follow of electricity, thus the starter doesn't get enough. you can also take jumper cable pos battery post to large post on starter. with a good connection, the engine should spin. then if the starter is good clean everything and retest. then trouble shoot solenoid. starters can be rebuit at a starter/alternator shop, much cheaper than a new one.

also have the battery load tested at the auto parts store, free, i've had new batteries go bad

well even with the correct solenoid that i had on it, the motor was still making the same clicking sound. somewheres ive developed another problem. the choke on the handle wont choke the motor when i push it in??? ive cross jumped the solenoid to crank to the started to let it run that way, but the key still isnt working. nor is the fuel pump kicking on. well i dont hear it clicking, at least. ill try cleaning and inspecting the wires to make sure they're clean tomorrow. do yall think the hydralic pump on the tilt/trim is froze???? keep the comments coming

same comment as above, clean connections from battery to engine, then report results.

some guys learn by the manual
some learn from listening
some of us have to p** on the elec fence.:p

You can those tilt motors on ebay, I've seen them on there regularly.
Try looking here on iBoats first though, new is better than used.
