My 30 runs fine for a half mile or so then looses all power and motor begins to run real rough and shakes. If I idle down and let it sit a minute or two and take back off it will run fine again for about another half mile then do the same. It looses power so fast it damn near throws me out of the boat.
I am having carb rebuild because I think needle valve is sticking a bit and have a new power pack to put on. My question is, will I need to reset timing after I pull flywheel to instal power pack or not? Also, if anyone has any idea as to my problem please let me know. I'm just taking chances with power pack and carb rebuild.

I do not think you need to remove the flywheel to replace the power pack. Also I believe the flywheel key is what gives you timing. So no timing is needed. Maybe try and pump the fuel bulb when it falters. If it picks up then the fuel pump could be failing.

The power pack on that motor is under the flywheel, but try what post #2 said about pumping the bulb when it falters.

And another confirmation (from a newbie myself) for post #2...
As long as you don't adjust any timing linkages, then no. You shouldn't have to reset timing after re-installing the flywheel.

As stated, the flywheel key aligns the flywheel in the proper position for timing. So, just make sure key is installed properly, tapers are clean and dry (no grease/lube etc..) and then torque to spec (VERY critical)..
