1989 4.3 OMC - ticking sound from outdrive??

Noticed a sound coming from outdrive when trolling at low speeds. Sounds like a low sounding ticking, rythmic if you will, noise will go away if you raise the trim a little but may or may not come back. sometimes louder sometimes non-existant.

can anyone help diagnose what this noise is? dont like hearing it when im alone 20 miles off-shore.

How long has it been since the drive was off and u-joints greased?
Most likely the Gimble bearing or u-joint. You can grease the gimble bearing from the zerk on the starboard side of the gimble housing.But the u-joints must be done with the drive off.Either way a good reason to pull the drive and inspect everything..
