1989 85HP coils and cd boxes on a 1983 85HP

I'm looking into getting spares for my 1983 85HP coils and cd boxes which are all black in color.

Will the blue coils and cd boxes from a 1989 85HP work as spares for mine?

I had a mix of blue and black components on my 3 cylinder 90. I bought it that way. Supposedly they will not last when mixed, however, mine worked from the time I bought the engine and lasted another 3-4 seasons before a CD box crapped out. So: was it because of the different components or was it just its time? Could not say.
