I installed new thermostats this morning. Noticed water wasnt coming out of exhaust ports, pee hole has a strong flow. Then the warning horn came on. I am sure that the stats were installed properly, what else can it be? Is it possible that even though I am getting water from the pee hole, the impeller can still be bad?

Yes It did, thats why I replaced them. But there was water exiting the ports, but the flow didnt seem like enough. When i took out the stats, they were coroded and had pieces of the old waterjacket gasket i had replace.

I would drop the lower unit and inspect the impeller/water pump. While it is off, blow some water from garden hose or compressed air up the water line to ensure there is nothing blocking it.

I will do that, I do have a new impeller kit. Thanks, I will still be checking on this post to see if anyone has any more to contribute.

you may have to go back an remove the stats, and flush from there. while lower is off, connect the water hose to the water tube on the motor, with low pressure start the motor, and let the stats open. this way you know they are opening. if the horn goes off then you have to decide if the stat opened, or you have a bad temp sensor. a cheap infrared thermometer can tell you the temp of the head. stat should start to open at 140* and be completely open at 160*

Check the valve body in the thermostat housing. In addtion to the two huge holes for the thermostats there are two extremely small holes. One for each thermostat. These frequently plug up with general crud and debris. They have to be open. If they are plugged they will not let hot water get to the back of the thermostat to permit them to open up and will you will get the overheat.

Ok so i dropped the lower unit. I removed the hoses from the thermostat housing to check if there was any blockage. Ran the water hose from the water intake tube, Portside had a nice flow, Didn't get anything from the starboard side. I decided to remove the waterjacket cover and gasket to see if there was any blockage. There wasn't much water coming out of the two slots insde. Just some spitting. What should be my next step. Should I install the waterjacket and do a back flush from the hoses?
