The cam follower on the carb broke. The rewind starter needs to come out in order to get to the screw to replace the follower. Does anyone know if the starter can be moved/removed without the spring unwinding?
Thanks for any help

Removing the manual starter........ Pull the starter cord out far enough so that you can tie a knot in it to keep it from being pilled back into the engine area, remove the starter cord handle.

Grab the cord inside the engine compartment like your life depended on it and untie that knot.

With all of the cord now inside the engine compartment, tie the cord to the starter itself somewhere so that the starter spring cannot unwind. That's it.

I believe you have the vertical recoil. I think you you can take the top 2 screws out of the recoil and tilt it out of the way. Be careful tilting it you don't want to pull it out or it will unwind.
