Hi Everyone. First time poster. Just found this site and i'm so glad that I did. I have so many questions but I will start with just one :)

I have taken apart my outboard into many pieces and found MANY problems.. the owner before me treated this thing pretty bad.

Anywho that is another story that I will fill you all in on later.

What is a good cheap product that I can use to clean all the oil and chunky stuff off with?

And where is a good place online to buy a full gasket kit for my outboard? Anything website that you guys have used that you trust?

Thanks for your time
Doug

Re: 1989 8HP Merc Cleaning

A gallon of mineral spirits or kerosene mixed with about 4oz 2-stroke oil or ATF should work well as a parts cleaner.

You'll need a powerhead gasket set (27-42364A91) {18-????}
and a gearcase seal kit (26-41365A3) {18-3062}
and a new water pump impeller (47-42038 2) {18-2697-1}

(Merc part numbers available from any Merc dealer)
{Sierra part numbers available from iboats}
