I'm a bit of a rookie wanting to remove the lower end of my DT85, the unit will drop approx two inches and not come completly off. Something is holding it at this point. I'm wanting to change the water pump impeller. I've tried having it engaged in forward, reverse, or neuteral nothing seems to allow me to get it to release. Any suggestions or advice, Thank you Henry Ford

Don't know about your Suzi but the shift linkage on my Merc 25 went all the way up the leg to the powerhead compartment. Had to remove one clip and pin and it basically fell off after that.

There is a long bolt (on the leading edge) of the lower unit that you may be missing - at least on the DT 55 there is. If you look hard you will find it. It is much longer than the rest of the bolts. That may be your problem. I had a similar problem. Once I found this bolt the thing dropped off easily.

Do not under any circumstances use the cavitation fins to hammer the thing loose - even with a rubber mallet or wood block. You will crack those fins. They are pot metal and will crack (trust me on this ;) )

Good luck.

My DT75 is acouple of years older than yours but it may be similar. The shift linkage is at the top of the leg level with the bottom of the powerhead it can be disconnected by removing a rubber grommet on the STB side of motor about level with the bottom of power head. There is a 10mm nut loosen it so it is just staying on the thread and push the bolt towards the motor. Linkage is visible if you hold your head just right. I would put a couple of bolts back on the unit while I did this. As the unit dropped substantially I dont think you missed a bolt but there is one at the rear facing UP just near the trim tab.
good Luck
