Just bought a used Lund Mr Pike with a 90 horse Merc Outboard. It does have a working oil injection system. I spoke to a mechanic at a trusted marina boat repair place and his advise was to leave it intact. Many folks have recommended disabling it and and use a 50:1 gas/oil mix. Would like to hear opinions on this. Is it easy to disable and if so how??

Thanks much!!

While Mercury has not had a problem why take a chance when you don't have to... I have it disconnected on my 90 and my other 6 merc motors...they don't make a plug for the 90 so real simple is to take the line coming out of the oil tank, drill a hole in the top of the oir tank and put a gromment from Pep Boys with the hose and use the oil pump as a rescirculating pump...oil comes from the tank to the pump and gets pumped back in the oil tank...We mix our motors 40 to one give the high rpms we run our motors...50/1 is standard mix...

Wonder why they don't make a plug for it - thanks for the info - sounds pretty easy!

Sorry I said it wrong after reading my post..you take the line coming out of the oil pump and drill a hole to the top of the tank and put it there..so the pump is just pumping the oil back into the tank..don't forget to mix 50/1
