Hello everyone, it looks like people are out enjoying the wonderful summer! I just got back from a class for work and am excited to get the boat in the water! My engine is running well just having an issue with the water pump. If I prime the raw water pump with liquid dish soap it will put out some nice soapy water and work like a champ for a short bit. However, as soon as I run out of water in the tub under the outdrive, and throttle back or shut it off it won't start sucking water again and requires another priming actiong. I pulled the raw water pump apart and the impeller is in great shape, springs back to standing almost upright on the vanes right away and the pump is sealed. I have poored water in it lookin for it to leak and when it does pump after priming it doesn't leak. So I am thinkin maybe I need to replace the whole thing instead of just the impeller? Any ideas guys, the pump is no joke for price and any ideas would be nice before I drop the cash. I had an air leak on the outdrive and fixed that and have pressure tested the system with my shop vac, duct tap, and some soapy water so I know it isn't just sucking air. Just having a real hard time with raw water pump action. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have posted earlier on this same pump issue however have fixed air leaks and replaced the impeller since last posting over 2 months ago. Thanks for the help everyone and have a fun safe summer.

Have you tried it in the water yet? Having it submerged farther in the water may help get things going. I have seen from other posts that some motors do not pump much at an idle just in a tub or with muffs.

I haven't put it in the water yet to try it since replacing a seal that was leaking air into the system. I could give that a shot and see how it does only costs gas money to get there and at this point would rather that than a 200 buck water pump.

started new thread, same problem but engine is now running reliably enough to trouble shoot on the water.
