I have a 1989 Evinrude 150 HP (E150TLCEM) outboard with an intermitten stalling problem.

Initially everything works great, the problem is when I boat out about 5 or 6 miles around 4,000 rpm & stop it doenn't want to take off again right away.

It alway starts and idles great, but when I go to take off it stalls out. it will do this 3 or 4 time then run great again. If I just go a short distance it doesn't do it, only after traveling several miles.

Any Thoughts as to what I should start checking?

Jerry.....Thanks for any help.

It could be heat soak, let it idle after a long run to cool down, then pump the carb bowls full to cool them, if that doesn't do anything remove the engine hood to cool the engine, if that doesn't work its not heat soak.

At that point try choking it when it doesn't want to accelerate to see if its a fuel issue.

Re: 1989 Evinrude 150 HP Stalling Problem

I just fixed a customers engine(same year & hp) that was doing the exact same thing!! It would drop the top 2 cylinders but started great and idled fine, just lazy out of hole and sometimes it would kick back in and be fine. All tests with DVA and ohmeters showed components ok, but found problem by using a timing light. Replaced the timer base as it showed low reading on ohms but did not fix it and it ended up being the pack.
