bought a 89 evinrude in really nice shape. when i replaced the impeller the shift linkage was still shiney. looking at the exhaust housing it was clean no sludge. it had the plastic carb of death on it so of course it didnt idle for poo.
i thought i had paid too much, at 500. bring it home installed a 80's or so metal carb and it runs like a top. new impeller so she pumps good too. the plugs were original and still pretty clean.
it sold in less than a hour for 850.00. it was purchased new in 90 for 1458.00. so i think it held its value pretty well.

15's from '74-'92 are the best option for a 14' tinny. Trolls wicked-slow like a 3hp, and plenty of power to zoom to the next spot, plus excellent fuel economy.

I sold mine way too cheap then. I had a 1991 Evinrude 9.9 that was cherry. I picked it up for 200 and sold for 500. Maybe I should have asked for more.

well i ended up buying another 14 footer :) came with a darn yamaha 15 hp... its kind of like a johnson? but yes i agree those are some of the best motors made. i dont like the 74-76 series, idle issues i think its the stupid ignition system. before the coils were great, after that the cdi is pretty bullet proof. the later 87 up starte using a lot of plastic and carbs suffer idle issues due to the plastic cover on the tops of the carbs.
