Here's the deal. I bought a boat with twin evinrude 300's (VRO). Both motors run good until they always start running hot. Here's what I've done.....
- Put new impellers and housings in both lower units
- Blew out all the water circulation lines
- Cleaned the thermostats and replaced rubber grommets

I don't know what else to do. The motors have already had the high speed water pickup conversion.
The alarm does'nt sound, but it seems to me that they should'nt be running that hot. The always run right under the red on the temp. guage.

Temp gauges are well known to be very inaccurate. If the alarm is working and it isn't sounding then the motors are probably not overheating. Check them with a thermal gun or melt sticks.

Alarm used sounded before I blew out all the lines. I think the temp guages are working but I will take your advice and check with a thermal gun. Also I forgot to mention that the engines sat for 8 years, thats why I just went ahead and installed new water pumps and housings. Engines only have 254 hours on them. Thank you for your reply.
